Kawanabe’s specialty : “straw-covered tea”
On May 4th , a “100 yen tea shop” opened at “Kawanabe Yasuragi no Sato”, a roadside farmers’ market in Minami-Kyushu city. The initiative was taken by the Women’s Division of the Minami-Kyushu Tea Industry Promotion Association. They promoted Kawanabe’s specialty “Warakake Tea” not only to local residents, but also to tourists.
The shop was filled with the aroma of fresh new tea. “Warakake Tea” means tea covered with straw. The producer Kuwazuru tea company covers tea leaves with straw just before harvest. By doing so, the ingredients of straw dissolves in morning dew and confer a milder and sweeter taste to tea.
